One of Huddersfield’s iconic cotton spinning mills has been transformed with the installation of more than 100 replacement windows fabricated in the REHAU S706 70mm PVC-U system.
Specialist trade fabricator and REHAU Authorised Partner Nu-Fit Windows based locally in Elland has supplied 110 3m x 2m windows to replace single glazed timber windows across one façade of the one hundred and five year old building.
These were installed by local contractor Proplas Developments who also repointed the building as part of a series of improvements to make it more energy efficient and comfortable for staff.
Since 1986, the six storey building has been the home of Spectrum Yarns Ltd, which produces the Glenbrae range of golfing knitwear and the Stylecraft range of hand knitting yarns.
The company reinstated spinning looms into the building after an absence of nearly 50 years and has been gradually restoring the fabric of the building ever since.
The original timber windows which were in place had become rotten and draughty to the point that there was a danger that they could fall into the car park below.
Proplas recommended the REHAU S706 windows as the ideal replacement for the timber windows because of their proven quality and durability and also specified self cleaning glass to minimise the ongoing maintenance of the windows.
The installation has proved so successful for Spectrum Yarns that the company is already planning the next stage in the restoration with further REHAU windows to be installed across the remaining façades.
